Born August 21, 1827, in Derba, Orleans county, Vermont. He was married in 1866, to Ellen A. Foote, at the residence of Perry C. Holcomb, in Marshalltown, Iowa. They lived 25 years in Marshall county, then moved to Baker township, O'Brien county, and five years ago to Primghar. Mr. Hinman was a man of far more than ordinary ability. He was well educated, well read, and well-informed upon current the events. He never engaged in politics nor sought office, though in 1891 he was tenders the nomination for representative in the Twenty-fourth General Assembly, 1892. He was a farmer by trade and also worked in the livestock business. He and he wife were members of the Congregational Church.
