Born April 15, 1858, at Marengo, Iowa. He graduated from law school at University of Iowa in 1882. In young manhood, he was a member of the Twenty-second, Twenty-third, and Twenty-fourth general assemblies as a representative from Keokuk county. He was the city attorney of What Cheer for eight years. Judge Beem married Miss Madge Henry, What Cheer in 1882. The couple came to Waterloo in December, 1908 and this had been their home since. Mr. Beem was a police judge for many years. Soon after the establishment of the municipal court he was elected to the bench. Judge Beem was a member of the Masonic, Knights of Pythias, and Moose orders.
