Born in Stuben County, New York, June 9, 1825. He studied law in Balston Springs, New York, and practiced in Alleghany, of that state, until the spring of 1869. when he a his family moved to Pella. In 1885 and 1886 he represented Marion county in the state legislature. In 1851 he married Clarissa Brown.
