Born at Wethersfield, Wyoming county, New York, April 15, 1826. At the age of nine he accompanied his parents to Pennsylvania where he continued to reside until forty years of age when he moved to Greene county, Wisconsin. In 1870 he moved to Iowa and was an honored citizen of Sioux County. He was a farmer by occupation. For sixteen years he held the office of justice of the peace and in 1888 was elected a member of the legislature which office he held for one term. He was married in 1851 to Martha Eggleston.
