Born in 1833 in Chester County, South Carolina. His occupation was a farmer. During the Civil War he was a Captain in 10th Iowa Infantry, Company G. He enlisted August 29, 1861, mustered September 7, 1861 as 1st Sergeant. He was wounded severely November 25, 1863. He mustered out August 15, 1865. His first wife was Laura E. Wilson. His second wife was Mrs. M. J. McGowan. They were married about 1875 and had one child. He died November 26, 1908 in Summit, Montana and is buried at the I. O. O. F. Cemetery, Indianola, Iowa.
