Born August 10, 1820, a native of Virginia. He moved from Virginia to Indiana, from there to Illinois and from that state to Drakeville in 1860. He was a farmer, endured hardship of the pioneer life, and was a respected citizen. He was elected to represent Appanoose county in the Fifteenth Iowa General Assembly, 1874, and reelected to the Twentieth, 1884. In religion he belonged to the Church of Christ, and as a local minister was widely known. He was united in married to Jurreter Bunton.
