Born April 16, 1845 in Woodstock, Illinois, the son of Orsamus (Orson) Gardner Wilbur and Eliza (Ethel) Lucinda Willis. He graduated from the University of Philadelphia Medical School in 1870. Being a man of great energy and more than usual ability he became very soon identified with the public interests of the community. He purchased land, made improvements, and took an active part in politics and. civic enterprises He was one of the original incorporators of the of the Mesa City bank. At one time he was one of the owners of the Bull Dog mine at Goldfield. Before coming to Mesa, Dr. Wilbur and family resided at Rockford, Iowa, of which place he and Mrs. Wilbur moved soon after their marriage. He also took a prominent part in the politics of the Hawkeye state, and for eight years served in the house of representatives. He married Sarah Delia Hoy on June 1872 in Woodstock, McHenry County, IL., daughter of Marmaduke and Catherine Hoy. He and Mrs. Wilbur were members of the Methodist Church.
