Born in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, October 16th, 1805. He was a resident of Iowa for thirty-nine years, and became a resident of Cedar county in 1846. He was once identified with the public interests of the county. He served in the State Legislature, 1848, and also as county Judge, Treasurer, Recorder, and Auditor. Those who knew him most intimately as a public officer, bear testimony of the accuracy and impartial disposition of all his public business. He was married to Annetta M. Ennis. They were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
