Born June 1, 1834, and is a native of Medina County, Ohio. He grew up to manhood in Ohio and came West to Iowa in 1855, and located in Clayton County. He was engaged in mercantile business at Elkader for a number of years. He came to Dubuque in 1873, and entered the employ of the Knapp & Stout Lumber Company, and since then has been connected with that company. In December, 1854, he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Cook, a native of Ohio; she died in 1866. Mr. Daugherty was united in marriage, November 3, 1870, to Miss Jennie E. Stout, daughter of H. L. Stout, one of the oldest settlers of Dubuque County. He represented Dubuque county in the lower house in the Nineteenth General Assembly, 1882.
