Daniel W. Stutsman
Van Buren County
Born in Morgan County, Ind., February 12, 1839. He came to Lee County, in 1843, to Chariton County, Mo., in 1864, to Bentonsport in 1864 where he engaged in the drug business and while there commenced his life study of medicine. In 1865 he was appointed commissary steward in the 60th U.S. Colored regiment, discharged in November of the same year. After this he attended a course of lectures at the College of Physicians at Keokuk, graduating in the spring of 1867 with high honors, after which he started his practice in Bonaparte. He married Miss Emma Lewis, July 3, 1873, to whom two daughters were born. Dr. Stutsman enjoyed the confidence, respect and love of the entire community and was an honored member of the Masonic order in the degree of Knights Templar. He represented Van Buren County in the Eighteenth General Assembly, 1880. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
