Abner Lewis
Fayette County
Born April 12, 1819, near Canton, Ohio. His father died when the boy was eight years sold, leaving him to the life of a farmer boy in a new country. On January 17, 1841, he was married to Catherine Frank, the new home being on a farm. Upon the death of his wife, Mr. Lewis left the farm and studied medicine with Dr. Parleman at Mogadore, Ohio, and after finishing his course, he formed a partnership with Dr. Buchtel at East Liberty, Ohio. In 1872, he moved his family to Iowa and settled on a farm. Lumber was hauled from Postville for the building, and the farming and medicine were combined. While living here the Maynard Presbyterian church was organized and Dr. Lewis was made an Elder in the church. The family subsequently lived in Fayette two years and removed thence to Sumner, where the doctor renewed his practice. They return to Maynard and in 1889 he was a member of the Iowa legislature serving in the Eighteen General Assembly representing Fayette County.
