Clarke County
Born in Kentucky, June 18, 1825, son of John and Margaret Stephenson. With his parents he moved to Rush County, Indiana, then removing to Monroe County Iowa, near Albia. On May 11, 1851, Mr. Stephenson married Miss Martha Gibson and they had seven children. In 1853 he came to Clarke County where he was a highly respected citizen, loved and honored by all who knew him. He spent several years of his life in public service filling with marked ability various offices including Clarke County Board of Supervisors, township trustee, and Justice of the Peace. He was elected to represent Clarke County in the lower house in the Seventeen Iowa General Assembly, 1878. Mr. Stephenson was an Independent in politics. He was a member of the Christian Church. He died age 89 on November 9, 1914 and is buried in the Murray Cemetery, Clarke County, Iowa.
