Born in Ross county, Ohio, August 25th, A. D. 1817, and died at his home south of. Wapello July 1st, A. D. 1901. He came to the territory of Iowa in the year 1840, determined to obtain for himself a farm of 160 acres. He was always active in building up this great commonwealth. He was a public spirited man, and was active in forwarding every enterprise for the benefit of his community, the county or the state. In 1877 he was elected to represent Louisa county (then the 30th representative district) in the 17th general assembly of Iowa, the duties of which be discharged acceptably to -his constituents. On September 2nd, 1840, he was united in marriage to Miss Hulda A. Herrick of New York. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
