Born at South Bend Indiana, August 27, 1836. In 1855, he moved with his family from Indiana to Redfield, Iowa, then to Des Moines. On April 10, 1859, he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Ellen Bates. He was a farmer by trade. He was elected to represent Dallas county in the Fifteenth Iowa General Assembly, 1874. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
