Born in Tennessee on March 30, 1809. He came to this county in 1855 and purchased 140 acres of land. Soon after coming to the county he erected a mill, and in 1872 the present mill known as Thornburgh’s mill. The mill was originally built as a saw mill, and some seven years afterward the present grist mill was built on the same site. He was elected county judge of Dallas County, and after serving one year resigned, in consequence of business interest. He also served four years as State Senator. He married Rachel Willis, in 1848, and she was born in Indiana. They have one daughter: the wife of Mr. Shively, now living in California, and four adopted children. Mr. Thornburg died February 28, 1879.
