John Tasker

Born in the town of Coupar Angus, Forfarshire, Scotland, on April 5th, 1814, In early life he received common school education, and was when quite young enraged in various industrial pursuits until he approached early manhood, when he learned the trace of stonecutter and mason. Mr. Tasker married Miss Mary Jane Paul November 16, 1840 in Ohio. He several terms as county supervisor and was elected to the state legislature from Jones County in 1872. He served with honor to himself and those whom he represented. He was instrumental in locating the penitentiary at Anamosa. His later years were spent in honorable leisure on his home farm, living after the death of his wife with his son Thomas and wife.
