Born in January, 1829 in Hesse Darmstadt, Germany. He came to Lee County, Iowa, where he engaged as a druggist in West Point, Iowa. He then went on to be a farmer, horticulturalist and teacher. He was married three times the last one being to Miss Maria Rebecca Lehman. Mr. Werner represented Lee County in the Twelfth Iowa General Assembly, 1868.
