William Werner was born in Hesse, Germany, on January 3, 1828. In 1848 he married Eliza Magdeline Peters (from Bavaria) in Hancock, Illinois, and then around 1849 he and Eliza moved to Lee County where he was a druggist in West Point. He was also a farmer, horticulturalist, and a music teacher. Werner died in Chicago, October 20, 1910.
