Born on May 1, 1785, in Bourbon County, Kentucky. In 1800 he moved to Montgomery County in the territory of Ohio with his father’s family. He married Esther Pogue, August 13, 1805, and in 1806 they moved to Eaton, Ohio. He served as a captain in the War of 1812. He was clerk of Preble County and served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1815 to 1818. He later moved to Wayne County, Indiana, and served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 1837 to 1838. He next moved to the territory of Iowa and worked in the land office and served in the Territorial Legislature in both the Council and House of Representatives and was a member of the 1844 Iowa Constitutional Convention in Iowa City. He died March 12, 1849, in New Orleans, Louisiana, having moved there for his son’s health who died Feb. 16, 1849. He is buried in Mound Hill Cemetery, Eaton, Ohio.
