Henry J. Campbell
Lee County
Born in 1810, in New York. Mr. Campbell came to Iowa in 1835 and settled in Lee County. He was a farmer by trade. The Democratic party was first organized in Lee County under Mr. Campbell about 1834 or 1835. He was a good organizer and manager, and to his political shrewdness in planning the foundations, the Democratic party of the county owes much of its success. Mr. Campbell represented Lee County in the Fourth Legislative Assembly, 1841. He removed from Lee County to Texas and after a year or two, removed to California. After a year or two in California, Mr. Campbell and his eldest son started to Central America, and when they were far out at sea, the father sickened and died.
