Born July 3, 1812, in Davidson County, Tenn. His parents immigrated to Montgomery County, Illinois in 1826. There he enlisted in the Black Hawk war and served till its close. In the faIl of 1835, came to the Territory of Iowa, and laid claim to a homestead. He married Miss Minerva A. Paisley, March 25, 1841 and had two children. Mr. McCulloch was among the earliest settlers of Harrison Township. He served his township and county in important official positions. He was elected in 1841 to the Legislature and served in that body three consecutive terms, and was again elected in 1850, and, in 1854, was elected to the State Senate and served four years, then reelected in 1860, to the Legislature. He assisted in the revision of the Code. He was again elected to the Senate in 1870. He passed away on April 5, 1877.
