Born November 19, 1799, in Washington, Pennsylvania. Mr. Swearingen married Mary “Polly” Sanders about 1818 in Virginia. They moved to Richland County, Ohio, in 1836. In 1837, he and his family moved to Iowa territory. He married Temperance Ann Pearson on November 16, 1842, in Van Buren County. He served the people of Van Buren County in the Fifth Legislative Assembly of the Iowa Territory. He died in Appanoose County on January 8, 1853.
