Born December 2, 1815, in Dryden, Tompkins County, New York. He made his way west to Iowa, where he served the people of Des Moines County in the House of Representatives of the Fifth Legislative Assembly of the Iowa Territory. He married Martha Caldwell on November 12, 1843, in Des Moines County. He died September 9, 1883, in Burlington, Iowa.
