Joseph Bartlett Teas
Jefferson County
Born July 4, 1800, in Knox County, Tennessee. Mr. Teas explored the territory in 1832 and in 1833 moved his family to the area, later settling permanently in Albia and becoming mayor. He married Miss Julia Ann Edwards in 1819. Teas served in the Michigan Territorial Legislature Rump Council as council president in 1836. The Rump Council was only members from what would become Wisconsin Territory. He was a member of the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature from 1836 to 1838. He represented Jefferson County in the Fifth and Sixth Councils of the Legislative Assemblies. He served in the legislatures of three territories without ever moving. Mr. Teas died February 23, 1872.
