Born April 29, 1823 in the township of Castle, parish of Bodney, County Tyrone, Ireland, which place is twenty miles from the city, of Londonderry on the river Foyle. He came from Ireland to America in 1838, locating in Jackson county that year and taking up land in Washington township where he resided continuously until about a year ago when he removed to Bellevue. In 1855 he was married to Catherine Lamborn. During his life Mr. Reed was intrusted with the duties of various political offices. He was a member of the board of supervisors and for three terms represented Jackson county in the state legislature as a member of the house of representatives. All these offices he filled with credit to himself and satisfaction to his constituents. Mr. Reed was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
