Graduate of Belle Plaine High School. Married Bess Shurtleff February 2. 1920. Son, Robert O., Jr.; daughter, Joan. President of Burrows Publishing Company, publishers, with brothers and son, of the Belle Plaine Union and the Benton County Star (Norway); editor of Belle Plaine Union. Served in Corps Co. A, 109th Engineers, 34th Div., World War I, two years. Member of Belle Plaine Rotary Club; Masonic Lodge (Blue Lodge, Chapter, Commandery, El Kahir Shrine); Odd Fellows; Eastern Star; Sigma Delta Chi (journalism society); awarded master editor-publisher plaque by the Iowa Press Association, 1960, and Press columnist award, 1962. Member of Methodist Church. Past director Belle Plaine Commerce Club; past president Belle Plaine Rotary Club; past county and post commander American Legion; county coroner, 1927-29; member and chairman Benton County Soldiers Relief Commission (1935-50); former member Belle Plaine city council; member of the house in the 54th and 55th General Assemblies. Member of the senate in the 60th 60th Extra and 61st General Assemblies. Active in proceedings until the day before his death. Died in Des Moines February 11, 1965.
