Graduated from Dowling High School in Des Moines, Iowa 1965. Served 2-1/2 years in United States' Army. Married Shean M. Dailey of Burlington, Iowa 1972. B.A. University of Iowa 1973. M.A. American History, University of Iowa 1975. First term.
