Born in Jefferson County, Ohio, in 1822. His father died not many years after, and his mother and family removed to Dubuque County in June 1833. Until 1861, Mr. Langton was a resident of Dubuque, removing to Table Mound in 1849. He then went to California, returning in 1851. He is a member of the Catholic Church and of the Democratic Party. Mr. Langton was City Collector, Treasurer of Dubuque, and a member of the Legislature. He was married in 1855 to Miss Margaretta Murphy, a worthy lady of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and they had seven children.
