Born in Bourbon County Kentucky, July 27, 1798. Two years after, he removed with his father to Warren Co. Tennessee, where he lived until the year 1830. Having married he removed with his family at this time to Schuyler Co. Illinois and in 1833 came to Iowa where he has resided ever since. Mr. Alexander has led an active, useful life, having filled various positions of honor and trust. He was chosen to represent Van Buren Co. in the legislature and characterized his labors in that body by a jealous regard for the interests of his constituents, always casting his influence and vote on that side, which in his judgment, would result in the greatest good to the greatest number. He also was one of the pioneers of our State and Co., and, in common with others who were here at that early day, endured many hardships and privations in laying the foundation for that prosperity and greatness which our Co. and State have attained.
