Born January 5, 1820, in Geneva, Ontario County N. Y. His early life was spent on the farm with his father, until his majority when he set out to help make a world better and gain a livelihood. After leaving the Academy at Albion, N. Y., he went into the employ of commission merchants at Buffalo and Albany. In 1853 he came west and settled on a farm in Illyria Twp., in Fayette County. Three years later he went east and he and Miss Mary Elley were united in marriage. To them were born three children, two sons and a daughter. Mr. Richardson was quite prominent in the county and was a good and useful citizen. He was a member of the Sixth Iowa General Assembly, 1856, under the old constitution and of the first under the new. For many years he has been blind and deprived of much of the comfort and joy of life. He was stricken down with paralysis and confined to his bed. He was a faithful member of the Congregational Church, honored and loved by all who knew him. He was aggressive in all his thoughts and actions, desiring to keep himself abreast of the times and on the right side of all questions. Mr. Richardson died on November 22, 1895.
