Melrose Democrat Third Senatorial District Monroe, Lucas, and Appanoose Counties. Born July 20, 1906, on a farm near Grandview, Iowa, son of Eliza and James McGill. Graduated from Grandview Consolidated High School in 1926. Received B.S. degree from Parsons College, 1932. Graduate work in school administration at University of Iowa 1936-38. Married Merna Irvine in 1934. Parents of one son, James, 34, teacher in Bettendorf Public Schools. Mrs. McGill teaches in Albia Community School System. Member of United Methodist Church. County lay leader and lay speaker and holds various other offices in the Russell United Methodist Church. Senator McGill served in public school administration 27 years in Iowa and Colorado. Last position was in the Logan County High School System in Colorado. Lives on and operates stock and grain farm near Melrose. Serving first term, second session.
