Born in Lancashire, England, March 3, 1822. He came to America in May, 1849, and settled in Green County, Illinois, where he continued to reside until October, 1854 when he moved to Wayne County, Iowa, locating on a farm in Warren Township. He resided there until 1868 when he moved to Corydon, Iowa. On July 8, 1844, he was married to Miss Margaret Broughton. For a number of years in his later life he was cashier of the Wayne County Bank. From his early life he was a member of the Masonic Order. In politics Mr. Bracewell always affiliated with the Democrat party. He represented Wayne County in the Eighth and Ninth General Assemblies of Iowa. For half a century he was one of the most public spirited and successful citizens of this county. During all the years of his residence here he did his full share towards the up-building of the community. In church and in all religious matters he cheerfully assisted with a liberal hand.
