Born in 1826 in Ohio, his parents were John Millard Jr. and Sarah (Sallie) Hall. He died on 15 June, 1872 in Liberty, Clarke County, Iowa. He was buried in Liberty Cemetery, Clarke County, Iowa. He served in the military in Civil War Company D, 39th Iowa Infantry. At age 36 enlisted August 13, 1862, as Third Sergeant and he was discharged from service on June 5, 1865, Washington, D. C. He was married to Eliza A. Millard about 1852. Eliza A. Millard was born in 1834. She died on 25 May 1869 in Liberty Cemetery, Clarke County, Iowa.
