Independence Buchanan County Republican Born March 10, 1919, in Tama County. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Kitner. Attended Gladbrook High School. Served 52 months in World War II and received Battle Field Commission. Former police chief. Owns and operates 431-acre farm in Buchanan County. Married Maxyne Taylor in 1947. They have five children: John, Cody, Rita, Judy and Paul. Member of Methodist Church, Lions, V.F.W., American Legion, Farm Bureau, Northeast Iowa Peace Officers Association, and former Buchanan County Republican Chairman. Serving second term.
