Born in Wuertemberg, Germany, September 8, 1836. As a small boy he came to this country with his parents. The family settled in Wisconsin, which was then almost an unbroken wilderness. On October 2, 1859, Mr. Kopp married Mary Wagner. Then the war came and he enlisted for the union. After the war he and his wife removed to Des Moines County, Iowa, settling on what was then known as the Cameron farm, Franklin Township. From boyhood he was an earnest member of the Methodist Church. In politics he was always a republican having case his first presidential vote for Abraham Lincoln. He was frequently chosen to fill the various township offices and in 1877 was elected representative from Des Moines County on the republican ticket.
