Born in Earlville, Champagne County; Illinois, on March 21, 1835. With his parents, he moved to Iowa in the early 50's, locating in Audubon County where he met and married Catherine E. Crane, in January of 1860. Mr. Hallock served in the Iowa State Legislature for two years, in 1877-79 and occupied nearly all of the county offices including county judgeship of Audubon County. He spent his life largely in the occupations of farmer, teacher and publisher. He was a life-long republican.
