Born New Hampton, N.H., December 2, 1843. He was married to Miss Anne M. Robbins in 1866. He moved with his family to Newell, Iowa, in 1870, where he was engaged in the lumber business. He then organized a bank, which he conducted alone, one year, after which he was associated with Mr. D.C. Miller, in the firm name of Miller & Gordon. In the spring of 1889, he sold his interest in the bank to Mr. Miller. He then removed with his family to Mapleton and organized the Monona County State Bank. He was for many years a member of the Congregational Church. He always took an active and sustaining part in church work. Mr. Gordon represented the Seventy-second district, then composed of Cherokee, Buena Vista, Pocahontas and Sac counties in the Seventeenth General Assembly. He was a Mason of high standing and high degree being an active member of the Blue Lodge and Chapter at Mapleton. He was also a member of Columbia Commandery at Sioux City and of El Kahir shrine at Cedar Rapids.
