Estherville Republican 45th Senatorial District Palo Alto, Emmet, Pocahontas Counties. Born August 1, 1905, in Newell, son of Louis H. and Mary E. Hammer. Attended rural school of Pocahontas County, Varina High School, graduating in 1924. Attended Buena Vista College, 1924-28, B.A. Degree; University of Iowa, 1930-35 M.A. Degree; University of Iowa, special sessions, 1948-1956. Married Clara M. Gutel in Storm Lake, Aug. 14, 1929. Children are Phyllis, Mrs. Jay Karr, 38, and Lois, Mrs. Richard Stright, 36. School Administrator. Member of Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis International, Masons, Presbyterian Men, National Education Assn. (life member), Iowa State Education Assn., National Assn. of Secondary School Principals, Iowa Secondary Principals Assn., Civil Service Commission for City of Estherville, State Executive Committee for North Central Assn., State Executive Committee for Iowa High School Speech Assn. Serving first term in senate.
