Born in Glamorganshire, Wales, May 30, 1846; he emigrated to this country in 1865, and located in Johnson county and engaged in farming. In March, 1871 he came to this county and continued in his business in Prairie township until 1876, when he entered upon his merchant business; Mr. Johns came to this country a poor boy, without a dollar, but by industry and good management has been eminently successful. His career as a merchant is in keeping with all his other undertakings. He is well suited for his business, prudent, but generous in his dealings; he has made many friends during the time of his residence in the county. On the 17th of January, 1871, Miss Margaret Baxter, of Johnson county became his wife. Mr. Johns was elected to represent Keokuk county in the Nineteenth General Assembly, 1882. He is a Republican in politics.
