Born March 5, 1834, in Groveland, New York, and resided in that State until 1864, when he moved to Michigan, remaining there until 1869. He then came to Iowa, settling in Polk County. He was united in marriage to Miss Martha Hitchcock, in 1854. In the fall of 1877 he was elected to the office of justice of the peace. He has also held the office of township clerk, which forcibly demonstrates the esteem in which he is held by his neighbors. He was elected to the House of Representatives serving in the Nineteenth Iowa General Assembly, 1882.
