Born in Orange County, Vermont, February 23, 1820, is a son of Phineas, a native of Hampton, Connecticut. He came to this county in 1875. He held offices of trust in Wisconsin, being a member of both houses of the Legislature. He was elected a Representative for Floyd County in the fall of 1881. He owns 400 acres of well-improved land, and fifteen acres of timber, and is engaged in farming and stock-raising. He was married May 19, 1853, to Sarah J. Rosebrooks, of Onondaga County, New York. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
