Born in Dutchess County, N.Y., November 19, 1838. He received a good common school education, and completed it at the academy at. Litchfield, Conn. He came to Iowa with his father and four brothers in the spring of 1856. He was married to Miss Mary Harrison on April 19, 1858. Mr. Bowdish has been a prominent man in his county and was elected to the Seventeenth General Assembly in 1877-78, and also the Nineteenth General Assembly, 1881-82. He is greatly interested in educational matters, and has served as President and Secretary of the School Board. He has also held the office of township Clerk and Assessor. In 1907, he was appointed state inspector of county homes and other institutions in which office he served for two years. He was one of the charter members of the Linn County Old Settlers association. He was a member of the democratic party.
