Born in 1824 in Pennsylvania, and died August 18, 1908 in Texas. In 1878 he moved to Ida Grove, Iowa and bought farm land. He was a judge, Pennsylvania and Iowa State Legislator, and Mayor of Mt Joy, Pennsylvania. He was also the principal of a State Orphan School in Mt. Joy Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Masons and I.O.O.F. He was President of the Iowa Farmers' Alliance that wielded a powerful influence in shaping legislation, especially on the railroad question. He was a Republican and believed in prohibition. He was known for the "Kennedy bill" that enacted certain prohibitions against liquor.
