Educated in public schools of Calhoun County. Completed a course in Industrial Instructor Training, Engineer Extension Service, I.S.C. 1943. Married Bernice Woodward. One son, Robert, and two granddaughters. Listed in Who's Who in the Midwest. Owned and operated own Tax Consulting Business, Real Estate and Insurance, from 1944 until retirement in 1963. Councilman, Ames, 1950-56; Mayor of Ames for 4 terms, 1957-65. Attends Congregational Church. Heaton Award, 1965. Past President and former Director of the Iowa League of Municipalities; Past President of Ames Board of Realtors; Former member of National Association of Board of Realtors; U.S. Conference of Mayors, American Municipal Association, Ames Chamber of Commerce, Lions, Elks, Iowa Taxpayers' Association, Governor's Commission on State and Local Government. Elected Nov. 8, 1966.
