One of the pioneers of Denison, Crawford county, Iowa, came to this city in the spring of 1867. His life has been one of great activity and usefulness, and he is still prominently identified with business interests here. Mr. Bullock was born in Macomb, Illinois, on March 8, 1838, son of Thomas and Nancy (McCabe) Bullock, and is of Scotch-Irish extraction. He was one of seven children and lived at Macomb until young manhood's ambitions led him to work for himself, teaching school and as bookkeeper for a mercantile concern. He was married at Brooklyn, Ill., on the 17th of April 1865, to Miss Eliza W. Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Bullock came to Denison in 1867, where he conducted a general, store. Later he went into the drug business. In 1884 he was elected a member of the Twentieth General Assembly of Iowa, succeeding the late H. C. Laub. Later he was a candidate for the state senate but failed of election. He was always an ardent supporter of the Democratic party and prominent in its local and state councils. In 1896 he was a delegate to the national Democratic convention from this, the tenth congressional district, and again in 1900 he represented the district as a delegate to the national convention held at Kansas City. At the national convention held at Denver in 1908, he was chosen as one of the committee to notify Hon. John W. Kern of the latter's nomination for vice president. Mr. Bullock was identified with the membership of the Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Masonic lodge, O. E. S. and Knights of Pythias.
