Born July 4, 1840, Northasted, Ditmarchen, Germany. He came to Reinbeck when there were but few people here. He laid out a portion of the town, the land of which he then owned and many of the town lots bear the description of being located in Petersen's addition. He was in the furniture and hardware business for a number of years. On May 14, 1863, he married Miss Minna Klein in Reinbeck. He represented Grundy County in the Twenty-first General Assembly, 1886. He was a Democrat in politics.
