PHILLIP DIETZ Born in Hesse, Darmstadt, Germany, January 10, 1838. He was the son of John Dietz who came to America in 1853, settling in Scott, County, at Walcott, in 1855. Later the family settled in Hickory Grove Township. In 1872 Mr. Dietz removed to Walcott where he engaged in stock dealing, and in I873 in partnership with J. Stockdale, he built an elevator which is still operating under the firm name of Stockdale & Dietz. On September 22, 1859, Mr. Dietz was united in marriage to Dora T. Reinsen. Mr. Dietz was one of the founders of the Walcott Savings bank. He was also a director of the Farmers & Mechanics Savings bank of this city. He was a member of the Davenport and Walcott Turning societies, of Davenport Shooting society and of the A. O. U. W. and the I. O. O. F. orders. Mr. Dietz was a prominent Democrat and served in the state legislature from 1884 to 1888 with credit to himself and to his constituency.
