State senator from the Second senatorial district, is a native of West Virginia, and came with his parents to Jefferson county, Iowa, in 1854. He is the son of Joseph and Margaret Langfitt Ball. A descendent of the same family as Mary Ball, the mother of George Washington. His education was secured in the public schools and Fairfield University. He was married in 1872 to Miss Margaret L. Laughlin of Brookville, Iowa, who died in 1912. He has four sons and one daughter. Mr. Ball was elected representative in the twenty-second, twenty-third and thirty-sixth; and senator in the thirty-seventh and thirty-eighth general assemblies. He is engaged in farming, banking and manufacturing, and is a director of the Iowa State Savings Bank, the Iowa Loan and Trust company, and the Fairfield Gasoline Engine company. He is a member of the Christian church, the I. O. O. F. of Fairfield, and is a republican in politics.

Representative from Jefferson county, was born in Brook county, Virginia, March 6, 1848. His father Joseph Ball was born near Harper’s Ferry, Louden county, Virginia, and was a descendant from the same family as Mary Ball, the mother of George Washington. His mother was Margaret Langfitt, born in Beaver county, Pennsylvania and who was a second cousin of President James K. Polk. With his parents he came to Iowa in 1854 and settled in Jefferson county, which has been his home ever since. His education was secured in the public school and at the Fairfield University. He lives on a farm and farming and handling stock cattle has been his principal business. He is a director of the Iowa State Savings Bank and also a director of the Fairfield Chautauqua association. He was married October 31, 1872, to Miss Margaret L. Laughlin of Brookville, Iowa, who died July 17, 1912. To them were born five sons and one daughter. He is a member of the Christian church and also of Jefferson Lodge No. 4 I.O.O.F. of Fairfield. His father represented Jefferson county in the 13th general assembly. Was elected representative in the 22d, 23d and 36th general assemblies and senator in the 37th general assembly. A republican in politics.

He came with his parents to Jefferson County, Iowa, in 1854 where he attended the public schools and Fairfield University. He engaged in farming, banking and manufacturing, was a director in the Iowa State Savings Bank, the Iowa Loan and Trust Company and the Fairfield Gasoline Engine Company, all of Fairfield. In 1887 he was elected representative and re-elected two years later. Again elected in 1914, he served as representative in the Twenty-second, Twenty-third and Thirty-sixth General Assemblies. In 1916 he was elected senator from the Jefferson - Van Buren district, and served in the Thirty-seventh and Thirty-eighth General Assemblies. He vigorously proposed repealing the law for extending and improving the capitol grounds. He was a prominent citizen and a useful legislator.
