Born February 6, 1846, in Ohio. He was in the mercantile business for 35 years in Murray, Iowa. When only 17 years of age he enlisted in Company E, 130th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was prominent in all activities of his community serving in the Iowa Senate four years, president of the Murray Commercial club, president of the Murray school board, and superintendent of the Methodist Sunday school. He moved to Ontario, California about 13 years before his death. He was married in 1871 to Miss Alice N. Funkhauser. He was a Republican in politics.
