Born one mile northeast of the spot where Milton now stands on March 1, 1844, and departed this life on February 22, 1930, at the age of 85 years. When he was 2 years old his parents moved to the farm adjoining Milton. His education was obtained in the rural school of the community and in the old Troy Academy. On November 13, 1869 he was married to Mary Susan Perry, of Center Point, Iowa. Mr. Holland was a farmer and breeder of shorthorn cattle. He held many positions of honor and trust in this community. He served on the board of education. In the fall of 1891 he was elected to represent Van Buren county in the Twenty-fourth General Assembly, 1892. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
